Living by Faith, Not Sight
Trusting in a God who is NOT visible seems perplexing; in fact the New Testament writers acknowledge this. They also point us to the OT story of Israel’s exodus from Egypt to bolster that faith. Join us for our 6-week series The Journey and learn how to strengthen YOUR faith and be filled with an inexpressible JOY!!
7 Key Faith Supplements
Many of us take vitamin supplements for our health, and most of us appreciate monetary supplements to our budgets, but did you know Peter identifies 7 supplements to your faith? Over these two sermons, discover these faith boosters and how you can apply them to your life to boost and extend your personal faith as we step through 2 Peter 1:3-13. As a special bonus for this topic, we will be hearing the perspectives of some of our ministry and small group leaders, too!
minor prophets, major truths
They are often called the ‘forgotten prophets,’ this collection of authors of the last 12 books of the Old Testament; so-called because their writings are shorter than the ‘major’ authors. Yet they speak powerfully to US today. We invite you to join us this fall as we explore the major truths of Generosity, Passion and Love so poignantly and prophetically proclaimed by the minor prophets. Come with an OPEN heart … you won’t be the same when you leave!!
Reset 2 Restart
Lessons from Haggai and Zechariah
In 520 BC the Israelites who had returned to Jerusalem from exile faced a major decision. They had returned in 536 BC and started rebuilding the Temple which had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar’s army 50 years earlier. The Temple rebuilding began well-enough but within a year they faced intense opposition which stalled the project and eventually led to apathy for it altogether. In 520 B.C. the Lord sent two prophets, Haggai and Zechariah, to ‘stir up’ both the leaders of Jerusalem at that time (Zerrubabel, the governor, and Joshua, the high priest) and then ALL the people to RESET their priorities and then RESTART the work of the Temple. And it worked!! The leaders, the prophets AND the people rolled up their sleeves, defied their opponents, trusted the Lord and not only restarted the construction but actually FINISHED it within four years!!
These two prophets gave their inspired messages within a 4-month window of August-November of 520 B.C. For the next 4 months @ Evergreen, from September thru December 2018, we will ask the Lord to ‘stir up’ the elders, the leaders and our people to RESET their priorities and to RESTART the work that needs to be done in building up the LIVING Temple, the New Testament church community of ECC. This includes an understanding of what a fully-functioning and vibrant member of a local church ‘looks like.’
Parables of Jesus
Jesus proclaimed that He would reveal secrets about the Kingdom of Heaven that had never been revealed before. Yet Jesus chose not to share these secrets with everyone, but rather hide them from many people through the use of parables. Join us this summer as we explore the secrets of God's Kingdom told through the parables of Jesus, and learn why these secrets are so profound they can completely transform a person's life.
Part 1 – Build Bridges
Part 2 – Build the Body
Part 3 – Build the Temple
Part 4 – Build the Kingdom
Every serious follower of Jesus can grow stronger in their walk and more fruitful in the service by listening to the ‘letters’ that God writes to us throughout the week. Those letters can actually come in MANY forms: Scripture for sure and foremost!! But also pastors and spiritual leaders/mentors, close friends, family members, co-workers, acquaintances, circumstances, things that go well, things that don’t. Often we don’t ask for them and often they take us by surprise!
WHAT letter would God write to Evergreen Church? And HOW would you respond? Join us this Sunday as we enjoy a special Christmas presentation and conclude our message titled 'The Letter' based on the Apostle Paul's writings to the church in Corinth, Greece.
20 20 Vision
God has provided unlimited resources for living a godly life. These come through Jesus and His promises. Peter exhorts us to ‘make every effort’ and ‘be all the more diligent’ to tap into those resources. If we do so, we live a life that is effective AND fruitful … we develop 20/20 Vision.
